Configuring a Simplicato IMAP Email Hosting account with iPhone

This is a configuration guide for setting up a Simplicato IMAP account on your iPhone.
The following information is needed in order to quickly configure the iPhone for your particular account.
  1. Your Name.
  2. Your email address.
  3. Your server access username (this is your fully distinguished email address).
  4. Incoming server name.
  5. Outgoing server name.
Let’s begin the configuration:
Select Settings on the home screen
Select Mail to start iPhone Mail.

Touch Add Account, select Other

Select IMAP

Page with account information fields appears.

Account information:

  • Name: Your Real Name
  • Address: yourname@yourdomain.com
  • Description: Enter a description for this account

Incoming Mail Server:

  • Host Name: mail.yourdomain.com
  • User Name: yourname@yourdomain.com
  • Password: your password

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):

  • Host Name: mail.yourdomain.com
  • User Name: yourname@yourdomain.com
  • Password: your password
Touch Advanced to configure to go to a few more configuration options.
Please note: Do not configure Sent or Deleted Mailbox folders yet. We will set those parameters up later.
The following screen will appear.

The important setting here is IMAP Path Prefix. For Simplicato mail servers the Path Prefix should be set as “INBOX”without the quotation marks. This setting will tell the iPhone where to look to find your folders that you have setup on the mail server.
Finally connect to the server to establish iPhone connectivity to your email account on the server. Once you have connected to the server the iPhone will complete the configuration by identifying the folders that you have setup on the server and establishing them in a directory on itself.
  • Go to the Home Screen and Select the Mail Icon.
  • At this point you should select the Email account you just setup.
  • You see email folders that appear like the following:

Next, the iPhone will start to download mail.
At this point we recommend that you go back to the Advanced setting screen and set the following parameters:
  • Select the Sent Folder that is on the server, so you will be able to see all of your sent mail whether you are using your iPhone, desktop, laptop, or home computer.
  • Select the Deleted Folder that is on the server, so that if you accidentally delete a message you will be able to retrieve it easily by going into your email account on the server and restoring the message.
  • Select the time interval that you want the iPhone to poll the server for new mail.
Please note: The lower the time interval you set for polling the server, the more quickly your battery will discharge.
